I have use Lenovo's own brand USB port replicator with the same laptop/monitor combo and it works perfectly. The biggest problem is that the driver does not seem to recognize when the USB is unplugged from the laptop, and this is especially dangerous when you are in the "display primary only on external" mode, selected from the task-bar icon. In addition it would only support 16-bit color, not full color 32, so it cannot display the windows aero features in Vista. One final criticism - it does not "remember" the settings. My intention was to use this with a Lenovo U110 (which has a widescreen 1366x768). I woke it up without the monitor connected, and the native laptop screen was black - the targus software didn't "let go" of the screen and return it to the laptop's own screen. It sure-as-hell isn't worth the $[.]. I had the laptop set up so I could work with the lid closed. The Lenovo port replicator costs a lot more ($[.].), but it doesn't have this issue.Regarding overall performance, it would best be described as "laggy" - certainly not recommended for gaming/graphics/animation.
Having to re-configure the monitor every single time is a royal pain in the ****.The only salvation is that I bought this on [.]., and only paid $[.]. I hooked it up to a regular monitor (1280x1040) and they just could not talk to each other properly. This is silly because the whole point is to walk into the room, slap down your laptop, plug in a USB, and get working. I then put the laptop to sleep with the monitor connected. The only way out of this is a forced re-boot (not good if you have windows open when you put the computer to sleep). for it, so I can safely dump it at a yard sale. MSRP.
I bought this docking station for my 64-bit HP laptop. You purchased it from a retailer, you will need to contact the retailer for a refund." This reposonse came directly from Targus Customer Support,Samantha Cambria.IMHO, since the critical detail of not working with the Vista 64-bit OS is omitted from any pre-sale documentation, this product is misrepresented by Targus and the issue should be resolved by Targus. Targus CLEARLY DOES NOT STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCTS. There is nothing in the sales literature that states this fact and I only found out AFTER I tried to install the software and contacted Targus. Perhaps it works fine with Vista 32-Bit, but I will never know. Their only response was "Thank you for contacting Targus. It was delivered on time and in good shape, but to my chagrin IT DOES NOT WORK WITH VISTA 64-BIT OS. Instead they are leaving me hanging, and I expect that they would behave the same way with all of their products.
Unfortunately the ACP50 docking station is not compatible to the Vista 64 bit system. I do apologize for the inconvenience." When I aserted that this was not the dealers fault or problem because the product is misrepresented by the literature, their next response was "The only recommendation that I am able to make is that you return it to the retailer for a refund" and then "We are not able to refund the product. I have unfortunately already discarded the packaging so now I am stuck with it and will likely sell it on eBay for less than I paid. WHat I do know is that I will never purchase another Targus product again (and I hope that Targus is reading this).
Targus ACP50US Universal Notebook Docking Station with Video I am not satisfied. The product is not working in my HP notebook 64 bits procesor windows Vista Home Premium edition. Some body can help me to downdload the correct driver.LM
I bought this product with lot of anticipation. I have 2 laptops that I keep flipping with my peripherals and I was bugged with the number of cables that I have to change.First issue I had was that the driver CD included does not work for Vista. VGA Connection is poor(1280 X 800, 16 bit). I have a 19" widescreen and it just wouldn't render correctly. The final nail in the coffin though was that it was missing signals from my wireless keyboard and mouse when the receiver was connected to one of the powered USB ports.I just returned the product, unfortunately I had to pay return shipping.
VERY frustrating. Have tried THREE different laptops with it - AND am using the drivers downloade from the web site. I purchased this unit primarily as a way to extend video from my laptop to my large monitor on my desk. I have USB 2.0 on both computers. Forget latency or 'gitters' it flat crashes. In XP it freezes mouse & video and in Vista it pukes a blue screen. It's the Targus Video drivers that are bailing out. Wish I had spent my money on something else.
